No school day 9
Field trip
Weather- going to be 80 degrees tomorrow, way too nice to stay in the house. So....
For PE we loaded a bunch of stuff and horses in the horse trailer and went horse camping!
We went to a private campground, Pomme de Ridge Horse camp at Pomme de Terre lake in Bolivar. I had called in advance to make the arrangements for "social distancing" We had the whole place to ourselves, literally, no one else for miles. After a quick check in we never saw another soul for 2 days. It was social distancing at the finest. Perfect weather for camping and horseback riding.
Chemistry - Figure out how to dye a horse green, Brittney has learned the best way to get long lasting green color to stay on her horse. The secret is use hot water along with the food color. Good thing Snickers is gray so it is easy to get her to match all of Brittney's green tack. Brittney really loves green if you haven't figured that out already.
PE-As soon as we got there and got set up we headed out to the trails and went on a nice ride along the lake before dinner.
Botany- Brittney has to be the luckiest kid, she finds 4 leaf clovers all the time. This time she found a 5 leaf clover, does that make her extra lucky?
Home ec- prepare tin foil dinners for the campfire.
Earth science - collect wood and build a campfire.
Earth Science- Carissa had researched earlier then did an oral report about charcoal while we sat around the campfire. Now we know all about charcoal. We then put it to good use and cooked our tin foil dinners. YUM! nothing better than campfire food. It's just magical to sit around the campfire watching the sunset as you eat your tinfoil dinner.
No camping trip is complete without s'mores, that charcoal comes to good use for perfect s'more making.
Photography- Along with the multiple photos around camp and on the trail the girls got some amazing photos around the campfire. The horse campground facility was fabulous, they even had horse themed campfire rings. The horses seemed to come alive, it was so cool to see the fire through the horse cutouts.
What a perfect day. Time to hit the "hay" Carissa slept up front, but Brittney chose to hang a hammock in the back of the trailer. Apparently it was very comfortable. Probably our most memorable day of "homeschool" yet!
